Kachina Chief  Pautiwa (Zuni)

The most prestigious supernatural of the Zuni Kachinas, Pautiwa is possessed of all the Zuni virtues, including  great beauty, dignity, & presence. In his position of Kachina Chief, he is ever benevolent and kind, always  aware of the welfare of both human beings and Kachinas. Although he has great personal wealth, as shown by his elaborate dress and profusion of jewelry and feathers, he unhesitatingly shares with the less fortunate. His religious duties include coordinating all ceremonial calender events. No Kachina may visit the pueblo of Zuni  unless Pautiwa approves and sends it. He is a Sun Kachina and a member of the Sun Clan. Despite his abiding  interest in Zuni, Pautiwa's apperarances are limited to only three occasions, each impersonation by a different  clansman.
