Double Eagle

If one could truly paint a picture of the Divine and phsical realms coming together and melding, this is what I've
tried to do here. The Eagle is the physical representative of the Creator's messenger to earth. The Eagle
Kachina is the physical representation of not only the people's prayers to the Creator, but also the gurdian of
real eagles here on this plain. To be chosen in the kachina clans to be the impersonation of the Eagle Kachina
carries much honor as well as great responsibility. They are the ones who collect the secred feathers from the
cliff bases, during molting season and also, when they find an Eagle which has died, determines what parts of
the bird, feathers, beak, and or talons are to be used in sacred rites by the shamen. Then, the rest of the bird is
cremated as to allow it essesense to return to the Creator. Because all birds of prey are important in the
"Curing Rites" of the people, they are highly protected and it is very bad for anyone, especially a Native to
intentionally kill an Eagle. The mesas represents our "Altars". All are looking to the Sun, or face of the Creator
, to whom all prayers ascend and from whom all blessings flow. The log is cedar, which is abundant here and is
used for cooking, baking pottery and incense. Evergreen boughs are a symbol of abundant and ererlasting life.
