The Eagle Kachina is the physical representation of not only the people's prayers to the Creator, but also the gurdian of real eagles here on this plain. To be chosen in the kachina clans to be the impersonation of the Eagle Kachina carries much honor as well as great responsibility. They are the ones who collect the secred feathers from the cliff bases, during molting season and also, when they find an Eagle which has died, determines what parts of the bird, feathers, beak, and or talons are to be used in sacred rites by the shamen. Then, the rest of the bird is cremated as to allow it essesense to return to the Creator. Because all birds of prey are important in the "Curing Rites" of the people, they are highly protected and it is very bad for anyone, especially a Native to intentionally kill an Eagle.
