Eagle Kachina  Kakali (Hopi/Zuni)

Introduced between 1910 and 1912 by the Hopi for the Hilili cermony, which is danced for eagles. It was  adopted by the Zuni, with some variations in costume sometime later. When Kakali was first danced, everyone was so pleased that the Kachina War Chief, without waiting for the kachinas to finish their supper in the kiva,  took them immediately to Corn Mountain laying a cormeal road for them to follow to a home on Towayalanne (sacred mesa to the Zuni and home to all Kachinas). That is why there are always eagles on Towayalanne and  why the Hopi have bad luck with their eagles, because they gave away their Eagle Kachina.
