The Hemushikwe
Kachina (Zuni)
Today, the Hemshikwe Kachinas maybe seen as part of the Pasikiapa, or Wide Sleeves dance. The unique element about this Kachina is its "Life-Link" to its earthly impersonator. From the time that a Zuni man is named as Hemushikwe, the personal mask that is made for him, accompanies him for the rest of his life and is buried with him upon his death. The Mask variations may change symbols and colors, but they will always relate to clouds, their direction, and the rainfall they bring.
