North & South
 Shi-Tsukia(White Kachina) & Kwelele(Black Kachina)-Zuni

Originally from a prehistoric village near the Sandia Mountains, in New Mexico, these mirror opposites came
to Zuni, as the people emerged from the underworld. Shi-Tsukia represents daylight and growth (spring and
summer) and takes his position in the north. Kwelele represents the night and the time of sleep (fall and winter)
and takes his position in the south. Together, they appear only once a year; on the next to the last day of the
Winter Solstice. They bring the new year to the Zuni people.
