The Powamu Ceremony
 (Third Mesa, Hopi Indian)

The Powamu Ceremony is the ritual blessing of the Hopi pueblos in which the chief kachinas are Eototo and
Aholi. In the blessing, Eototo (the "Father" of the Kachinas) draws cornmeal symbols of clouds on the ground.
Aholi(Eototo's reinforcer) places his staff in the center of the symbols and waves it in an all encompassing
fashion, while giving out a long call. This is the symbolic calling of the clouds and rain to visit the pueblos and
their fields, during the coming year.
